Very similar to Pontoon (21), a lot of people will have played this in their youth and will find it easy to pick up. Probably the most popular of games alongside Roulette.
Black Jack is a card game where all players are playing against the dealer only and not each other. Four packs of playing cards are used and are dealt from a shoe. Cards have their face value, with picture cards counting as ten. The Ace is given the value of either one or eleven, the choice being the player's.
The object of the game is for the player to hold the hand with the higher total than the dealer, up to a maximum of twenty-one. A two card hand of twenty one (ie. an Ace with a ten-count card) is a 'Black Jack' and beats all other hands.
After the players have bet by placing their stakes in the boxes in front of them, the dealer deals a card face up to each box, beginning on his left and one to himself. He then deals a second face-up card to each box, but not himself. The dealer then completes the hands of all the players in turn, beginning with the player on his left. If a player is satisfied with his two-card count, he may stand. Otherwise he will continue to draw extra cards, usually by saying 'card' until he is satisfied with his count, or until he exceeds twenty one - when he loses.
When all the players hands are completed, the dealer will deal himself a second card. He has no options, he must draw a further card with a total of sixteen or less and must stand with a total of seventeen or more.
If you have a Black Jack and the dealer has an Ace, you will be asked if you would like 'even money'. If you decline then you win 2 to 1 providing that the dealer fails to draw a ten with his second card. If the dealer does get a Black Jack you do not get paid out, you just keep your stake.
Splits - You may split any pair. Any resulting Black Jacks will only be counted as 21 not Black Jack. When splitting Aces you may only receive one card on each. Doubling - You can double your stake when your initial two cards add up to either 9, 10, or 11. You are only allowed one more card once you've doubled your stake. |
